MOTIVATE: The Wednesday Word #WednesdayWisdom
If you cannot do this, if you cannot act on today’s word, the odds of you winding up living in a van down by the river go up exponentially.
This is the Wednesday Word. We’re going to talk about a very special word today. A word that could mean everything but also could mean nothing if you do not use the word correctly.
Today’s word is motivate.
Okay, now let’s get some understanding of this definition quickly and out of the way immediately.
Motivate is a verb, meaning it’s something that you do not something that you have. It’s not a feeling it’s an action.
One of the highlights about Grant Cardone’s books is that his books all have a glossary. So I’ve got the stack and I’ve got this in a very specific order. We’re going to look at the glossary of each book, and we’re going to look at the definition of motivate in each book, you ready?
Motivate, provide, in parentheses someone with a motive for doing something stimulate someone’s interest in Or enthusiasm for doing something. Origin Late Middle English from Old French motif. adjectives used as a noun from late Latin. motiveless, meaning to move.
Motive is the word in the dictionary motives. Something that causes a person to act, react or respond. The reason someone may take action, textual motives, something a need or desire that causes a person to act.
Sell Or Be Sold
Guess what Sell Or Be Sold doesn’t actually have a glossary. So what do we have though in the back? Quick Tips to conquer the biggest challenges in selling. Grant talks about staying motivated and what does he say? My motivation? This is very important.
My motivation comes from my attention on the future not from something done in the past.
Okay, so what’s your attention right now? Because if you’re not motivated we’re where are you? Are you in the present you the past or in the future? Grant says the other thing with staying motivated is you need to stay away from bad news and doomsayers. How important is this right now? Their goal is to drag you down and make sense of where they live and the choices they have made.
When I hit this glossary, guess what? It’s not even in there. But you know what is? Fuel. Grant’s definition and energy source and momentum to propel you into your purpose goals or future propel motivate.
So here’s the question how do you get motivated? How do you stay motivated?
Motivation means that you’re either moving towards something that you want or you’re moving away from something that you do not want.
So what I want you to do to figure out how to get and stay motivated is identify where you are at right now. What are you moving towards? And also what are you moving away from?
So your exercise is going to be this. I want you to identify and get as crystal clear as you possibly can on what you are moving towards, but also have a real understanding of what you’re moving away from.
This is how you’re going to get and then this is how you going to stay motivated. And then if you are not in the habit of writing that down every single day, we need to get you in that habit.
And I would suggest doing at least twice, if not three times a day, maybe even more depending on your level of motivation, you may need to just remind yourself of what you’re moving away from and what you’re moving towards, you need both to get and stay motivated.
And then the last thing I’m going to leave you with, is going to be this right now, whatever is going on for you, this is not the time to stop. Okay, now more than ever, you have to tie very tie into what you’re moving towards, do not lower the target. That’s one of the commandments out of The 10X Rule.
Never ever, ever lower the target regardless of what is happening around you right now. Okay, stay focused on the target do not lower it now is not the time to slow down.
This is the time however, to turn it up.
Whatever it used to take, it’s going to take more, so you’re going to have to turn it up.
- Are you fulfilling your potential right now?
- Are you at full speed / full steam?
- Are you or are you not?
- If you’re not, then you can fix it.
- If you are, is there more? Can you do more?
Probably, if you are wasting time on the things you can’t control, knock it off. It is literally demotivating you remember from the definition, right?
So put all of your attention on the things you can control ,where you’re going and that is how you motivate you. And that’s really the only thing that matters right now is you staying motivated.
