CONSEQUENCE: The Wednesday Word #WednesdayWisdom
INTRO: This word has fallen into a more negative category but the reality is that it is really a rather neutral word.
WORD: Consequence (noun)
DEFINITION of Consequence:
- a result or effect of an action or condition.
“many have been laid off from work as a consequence of the administration’s policies” - importance or relevance.
“the past is of no consequence”
ETYMOLOGY of Consequence:
late 14c., “logical inference, conclusion,” from Old French consequence “result” (13c., Modern French conséquence), from Latin consequentia, abstract noun from present-participle stem of consequi “to follow after,” from assimilated form of com “with, together” (see con-) + sequi “to follow” (from PIE root *sekw- (1) “to follow”).
Consequence: The Wednesday Word ACTION IDEAS:
So here’s the deal with consequence. It’s what comes after. After what? Your decisions. Decided to eat healthy, manage your macros, lift weights and do your cardio and the consequence of that is you look better naked. OR… Do your best couch potato impression, drink beer and eat a large pizza every night and suffer those consequences too.
Lung cancer and emphysema are consequences of smoking cigarettes. Being able to run a half marathon is a consequence of NOT smoking cigarettes. Both require you to make a decision. Both are choices and both have consequences. Running hurts. Emphysema hurts. Both require you to give up something and to chose an action.
With follow.”
Today is a direct consequence of every thought you’ve had, decision you’ve made and action you’ve taken. That’s the hard truth and reality of the situation. The good news about that is that tomorrow will also be a direct consequence of every thought you will have, decision you will make and action you will take.
And while there are no do overs you are certainly completely able to create any consequence you so choose moving forward….
